Battery and range extender

The Deepal S05 is a range-extended electric vehicle. The wheels are always driven by an electric motor, and a 1.5-litre petrol engine, which Deepal calls the Blue Whale Extender, works as a generator when the battery runs low. The official page quotes a pure electric range of 170 km on the NEDC cycle and a total range of over 1,000 km. The battery is a 27.28 kWh CATL unit that Deepal calls the Golden Shield battery, with an IP68 water and fire resistance rating. It supports DC fast charging from 30 to 80 percent in 20 minutes. The page also lists 6.6 kW vehicle-to-load power for running appliances. Maximum motor power is shown as 215 HP and the car is rear-wheel drive. These figures are manufacturer claims.

Size and practicality

Deepal describes the S05 as 4.62 metres long and 1,900 mm wide, on a 2,880 mm wheelbase. It claims the widest body and longest wheelbase among C-SUVs. The boot holds 492 litres, and the car has 35 storage spaces including a built-in cool box. The tyres are 225/60 R18 on 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels. The page does not give height, ground clearance or fuel tank size.

Equipment

There is a single variant on sale. Inside you get a 15.4-inch Sunflower touchscreen on a Snapdragon 8155 chip with Huawei Harmony OS, an AR head-up display, 14 speakers and 50 W wireless charging. The 1.9 square metre panoramic roof and 64-colour ambient lighting are included. The front seats are heated and ventilated, the driver’s seat has 6-way power adjustment with memory, and the passenger gets a 4-way powered zero-gravity seat. Driver assistance is called FutureSense 2.0 and covers 20 features, including adaptive cruise control and remote straight-in and straight-out parking. Chery-style details such as frameless windows and hidden door handles are also fitted.

Price, warranty and which one to buy

The official price is PKR 9,999,000, including freight and CVT, and the page calls it a limited-time special offer. The page does not publish warranty terms, so please ask a dealer. There is only one variant to choose from. In our opinion, the S05 is the sensible Deepal for buyers who want electric driving in town but still need a petrol backup for long trips, and it costs far less than the pure EVs in the range.
