The MG HS PHEV was Pakistan’s first locally assembled plug-in hybrid (deliveries from December 2024) and remains in MG’s official booking list alongside the newer HS family. It is sold in one version, the HS PHEV Performance at Rs 9,899,000 ex-factory.

Plug-in hybrid system

A 1,498cc turbo petrol engine works with an electric motor for a combined 280 hp and 480 Nm, through a 10-speed EDU2 automatic. The 16.6 kWh battery gives a WLTP electric range of 52 km and 0-100 km/h takes 7.1 seconds.

Dimensions

The first-generation HS measures 4,610 x 1,876 x 1,685 mm on a 2,720 mm wheelbase, with a 448-litre boot (1,375 litres folded), a 37-litre tank and seating for five. Ground clearance is not published in the official brochure, so we leave that field blank rather than guessing.

Why the old PHEV still makes sense

The original local PHEV still makes sense: huge torque and a usable electric range for less than the new Super Hybrid. At Rs 9,899,000 it costs Rs 300,000 less than the Super Hybrid’s Rs 10,199,000 — and delivers a combined 480 Nm of torque.

Electric range vs the Super Hybrid

The PHEV’s 52 km WLTP electric range is smaller than the Super Hybrid’s 135 km NEDC range — but the two figures use different test cycles, so they are not directly comparable. For short daily trips, 52 km still covers most commutes on electricity alone.

What to know before buying

Three things to know: this is the first-generation design next to the new HS; the fuel tank is a small 37 litres; and ground clearance is not published officially.
