Battery and motor

The Firefly has the same 73.6 V, 30 Ah Lithium LFP battery as the Fairy, listed as 2.2 kW, but a stronger brushless motor rated at 1,200 to 1,800 W. Crown claims a top speed of 60 to 65 km/h and a range of 70 to 90 km in eco mode, the longest range of any Crown scooter below the Raftaar Pro and Champion PRO.

Charging

The 83.95 V chargers are rated 8 A or 10 A, and a full charge takes 3 to 4 hours.

Size and practicality

Net weight is 82 kg without the optional guard, and the load limit is 150 kg. Tyres are 3.00-10 at both ends and Crown describes them as tubeless. Colours are grey, white, blue and black. A digital display shows speed, battery and other data.

Equipment

The Firefly has front and rear disc brakes, an LED headlight, LED lighting at the rear, three speed modes and NFC unlock. Crown also lists a high-beam headlight. An optional ToughGuard protective frame costs Rs 10,000 extra.

Warranty and price

Crown publishes the same warranty for all its electric bikes: Battery 4 years / 48,000 km; motor and controller 3 years / 36,000 km (repairable warranty); body parts 1 year / 12,000 km. Each period applies up to the stated distance, whichever comes first, and the motor and controller cover is a repairable warranty. Crown also lists financing through MCB Bank, Meezan Bank and Alfa Mall by Bank Alfalah, so ask your dealer for the current plans. The official price is Rs 235,000 without the ToughGuard.

Running costs

Crown’s own savings calculator on its website compares an electric bike with a petrol 70cc bike and estimates a much lower monthly cost for electricity than for fuel, though those figures depend on the petrol price and daily distance the user enters, so treat them as the company’s estimate. A larger battery also means a bigger electricity bill per full charge than a small scooter, but still far less than petrol.

Things to check

Ask whether the ToughGuard is worth fitting for your roads, and ask for the dimensions and seat height, which are not published. Also ask how Crown measures its eco-mode range, because a quoted range of 70 to 90 km will shrink with a pillion, hills or a heavy throttle hand.

Which one to buy

In our opinion, the Firefly is the better pick over the Fairy if range and speed matter more than rear storage and CBS, because it adds a stronger motor, a longer claimed range and a rear disc for Rs 15,000. The 82 kg weight is the heaviest of the small scooters, so test it for ease of handling. If you ride in busy traffic where bumps are common, the optional guard may be worth Rs 10,000.
